home visit

I often visit my hometown, Leicester. Usually though I go on train and meet my mum in a City Centre, my mum is well known there. I think due to previous trouble she has caused (joking mother!) This time I wanted the children to witness my old stomping ground Syston / Thurmaston. My father still lives in the house where I grew up but my mum has moved. My mum didn't like my barbecue suggestion, this was fortunate as it was now raining. Some make do ramps were made which enabled my access through the garage and rear patio doors. Exit appeared difficult and it did seem as though my mum could have a lodger but it was surprisingly straight forward to leave.

Trouble on the track

Squaredogblackpeg embarked on a trip to Carlisle to see my sister, this was unusually event free. This time I hadn't booked assistance though, the stations concerned are staffed so I wasn't really concerned. This time I was wrong though, when you book assistance your seat gets reserved. The train had to leave 4 carriages behind so it was packed, luckily I was prepared, I had taken my own seat!

A extremely disappointing and upsetting incident at Alton Towers, resulted with the following tweet and complainant. In 2 years of companionship with my assistance dog from @DogsForGoodUK I have taken her to many places. Today at @altontowers I have been removed from a queue and isolated from my family!😡

Teenage kickes

Unaware that the foxes were due to kick off the new football season under the cameras at Old Trafford, I already had tickets to see the Undertones at Holmfirth Picturedome.  The weather had changed, it was now cold and wet. Oscar had also had a meltdown the previous night, so I was shattered. There seemed to be several reasons not to go but I really wanted to. I made the right decision as the gig was great.

Anger management

An excellent day out started with great frustration, I need to find a method of releasing my anger. Pre-stroke I found comfort playing football and more recently running. Please send yoursuggestions on the back of a postcard. Archie had agreed to accompany me and Square Dog  to Meadowhall, he wanted to go to the cinema and also had saved a little money and wanted to spend it in the lego shop. Despite giving over one hours notice, Archie was not ready and we missed the bus. Judith wanted to take us but I was determined to take advantage of Archie's eagerness. So I was cross, the next bus would be an hour later. We caught the bus and then bought our train tickets. This was perfect timing with just enough time to collect some lunch that we could eat during the long slow train journey. Things went well until we reached the cinema, we purchased our tickets and sundries. At this point, with ice cream and drinks in front of my 8 year old son. It was revealed that the lift was broke...

Holmfirth Pride

This was a busy day, with physio, a visit from relatives, Square Peg Activities and also a meeting for Huddersfield Town Disabled Supporters Club. We took our relatives out for a meal and due to wanting to avoid rushing we asked for mine to be expedited. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case so I set off for Square Peg without any lunch. Square Peg was excellent, an absolutely brilliant idea has been suggested by a volunteer. Holmfirth Pride, will be a gala, a chance for people with disabilities to be proud of who they are. It was great to hear that the other Peggars are also extremely supportive.

Small steps

I have mentioned previously that I am trying to build my relationship with my children. Ideally I would like them to enjoy their time with me, without any worry. I am fairly confident and I also want them to share my confidence. So along with a Square Dog for company, we set off with Oscar and Archie for a set off for swimming pool at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. On this occasion, we accepted a lift from Judith but at least they felt happy that they could go with me. Swimming went along without incident and it gives me great hope that this type of activity is the start of things to come?!

Return of the Peg

It wont come as much of a surprise to you but Ive managed to damage all my communication devices. I can still text from my phone, but blogging is very difficult and extremely time consuming. So I am back, I hope you can forgive me? there has several good blog entries but rather than try and remember what I have been doing its just easier to start again.
